Home Bargains has announced it will open a new £7m store in Merseyside this week, creating 121 jobs for the local community.

The bargain retail giant will officially open the shop in Formby at 8am on Saturday in a 28,783sq ft unit that formerly housed Homebase.

The new store will come with a garden centre called GardenWorld at Home Bargains, with the outlet joining over 500 º£½ÇÊÓƵ-wide stores run by the Merseyside firm.

Graham Wallace, the new Formby store manager, said: “It’s a huge honour to be opening our new Formby store this weekend and something that I’m exceptionally proud of.

“I started my Home Bargains journey back in 2009 at our Kirkby store and have never looked back since.

"However, helping to launch the new Stephenson Way store will be a huge accomplishment for both myself and my fantastic team.”

The store will employ 134 people, including some staff who will transfer from other sites.

It will donate £2,000 to local charity Compassion Acts, which work in collaboration with Southport food bank.
