Music retailer HMV has announced it is closing one of its stores in Birmingham just three months after launching its largest outlet in Europe in the city.

The company put up 'Store Closing' posters in the windows of its shop in the Bullring on Boxing Day but no date has been announced yet for its final day of trading there.

In October, the retailer opened its first HMV Vault in the former Ikea store in Dale End to much fanfare.

The shop has a different feel to its base in the Bullring with a less crowded floor area, sound stage and a 4K room to show off Blu-ray and DVDs.

But there was no indication at that time the new opening would affect its existing site in the Bullring.

Bullring and Grand Central and the HMV Vault unit are owned by retail group Hammerson but the latter is scheduled for demolition as part of the Martineau Galleries regeneration project.

Birmingham Business - Review of the Year 2019

A statement from Bullring said: "We can confirm that the HMV store at the Bullring is due to close.

"We continue to offer a great range of technology and entertainment at Bullring and Grand Central including Game, Sky and within John Lewis and Selfridges and look forward to introducing a new offer to the centre in due course."
