One of Falmouth's oldest pubs is seeking to extend its opening hours until 2.30am on three days a week, but has been met with resistance from the town council due to concerns over increased late-night noise and antisocial behaviour.
The Craft Union Pub Company has submitted a request to Cornwall Council for a modification of the premises licence for the The Grapes Inn on Church Street.
The proposal involves extending the alcohol serving time from 1am to 2am from Thursday to Saturday, with live and recorded music permitted until the same time, and overall opening hours extended from 1.30am to 2.30am on these days.

While Devon and Cornwall Police and other public bodies have raised no objections, Falmouth Town Council has expressed its disapproval.
The council has recommended rejection of the proposal, arguing that the change in licensing hours contradicts existing policy and could negatively impact the Cumulative Impact Zone (CIZ), as well as hinder efforts to prevent crime, ensure public safety, and avoid public nuisance.
A CIZ is a designated area where evidence suggests that the number or concentration of licensed establishments may be contributing to issues undermining licensing objectives.
Council members voiced concerns about potential increases in late-night noise and antisocial behaviour in the Church Street car park located behind the pub, as well as general disturbances to residents due to the noise from patrons leaving the town centre later at night.
Established in the 1700s, The Grapes has traditionally been a favourite haunt for seafarers, merchants and Navy ratings whose ships were moored in Falmouth's harbour.
