Grade II listed farmhouse mixes original features with modern comforts

This centuries-old farmhouse in Balsall Common still has its Cromwellian staircase

A Cromwellian staircase and a hot tub make unusual bedfellows in the fixtures and fittings of a house, but The Homestead in Balsall Common, Warwickshire, has both.

The Grade II listed farmhouse is believed to , like the staircase, still survive.

However, modern comforts have been added over the years, including a gym and the outdoor hot tub.

The vendors, who moved in 14 years ago, say they will be sorry to go as it has been the perfect home to raise a family in.

“Our sons in law call our home ‘the Christmas house’. The style and character of it lends itself to that time of year. We like to have a roaring open fire lighting up the hearth in the sitting room and the wood burner glowing in the family room, creating an atmosphere that is truly magical.

“When they were younger, our children really enjoyed the grounds with their fantastic variety of play areas and hiding places.

“Now, as young adults, they enjoy entertaining their friends in the sitting room and adjacent garden room with the fully stocked bar above the cellar which separates the two rooms, followed by late night visits to the hot tub in the covered deck area.”
