The founder of Giffords Circus has returned to lead the business as it marks its 25th anniversary.

Toti Gifford, who founded the traditional travelling circus in 2000 with his late wife Nell, will take over from director Guy James as chair. Mr James will remain within the business following the transition.

Mr Gifford said: “Giffords has always been about family—on stage and off—and it’s a joy to be coming back into the fold.

"My family and I are excited for the future of Giffords Circus and look forward to ensuring it remains true to its original spirit, ready for the next generation.

"We thank Guy for his long-standing commitment to Giffords, which under his leadership has gone from strength to strength. We’re pleased he will remain a valued part of the Giffords team.”

The appointment follows the launch of Giffords' Laguna Bay tour, which the company says is its "most ambitious" show to date.

Set against the sun-soaked backdrop of the US in the 1950s, the show is directed by Cal McCrystal. Mr Gifford's eldest daughter, Red Gifford, also makes a cameo appearance.

"Laguna Bay captures the spirit of vintage beach culture with a distinctly Giffords twist, whisking audiences away to golden shores and the cool kitsch of the era," the company said in a statement.

Giffords Circus’ travelling restaurant, Circus Sauce, will return to accompany the Laguna Bay tour, serving a banquet style three-course feast on selected evenings following the last show of the day.

The circus also has a fully licensed bar serving locally sourced alcoholic and soft drinks throughout show days, and the Circus Sauce Café and Diner wagons will also be open.
