Gas distribution company Cadent is bringing in Steve Fraser from United Utilities as its new chief executive.
Currently chief operating officer at the north west water company, he is set to replace interim CEO Steve Hurrell in the autumn.
Mr Hurrell will return to his role as chief financial officer. He became interim CEO in February after Chris Train OBE retired.
In a statement the business said: “Steve [Fraser] brings a wealth of experience to Cadent in leading teams through change, managing and transforming infrastructure businesses.
“He will lead Cadent on the next step of its journey, to put the customer at the heart of everything it does.”
Cadent is in the middle of plans to cut hundreds of job as part of a dramatic bid to cut costs.
The business, which has , Leicester, and in nearby Coventry, wrote to almost half its staff last month offering them voluntary redundancy.
It is also cutting the number of contractors it uses and asking employees to consider more flexible retirement plans.

It is thought around 400 jobs could go across the company - 10 per cent of the 4,000-strong workforce.
There are around 1,000 staff, including contractors, at a main office and call centre in Brick Kiln Lane, Hinckley, and 300 staff in Coventry.
There is a call centre in Leicester.
It also runs the national gas emergency service, which is not affected.
A few days after the job losses were announced it was revealed that Cadent had agreed to pay £24 million to improve services after letting down thousands of customers.
The business is also setting up a £20 million community fund to help vulnerable customers.
Ofgem said Cadent, which runs pipelines between the national gas network and 11 million homes and businesses, left thousands of residents in blocks of flats without gas for an unacceptable amount of time.

It said Cadent also failed to pay compensation over a six-year period to as many as 12,000 residents who were without gas for more than 24 hours.
On top of that, the business was found to have no records of 775 high rise blocks of flats in its London network – which meant they were not part of its regular inspection or maintenance programme.
The business made an operating profit of £724 million on revenues of £1.85 billion in the year to March 31, 2018.
The new chief executive has more than 20 years experience of managing and transforming infrastructure businesses, most recently at FTSE100 company United Utilities.
He has a degree in management studies and a masters in engineering management from UMIST, and holds a diploma in advanced management from Harvard University.
After leaving education Steve trained in utilities operations working across water, electricity and latterly high pressure gas pipelines
He became a director of Bethell Group where he worked to establish it as a leading player in the energy services sector.
He joined United Utilities in 2005 to run the global outsourcing division Energy and Contracting Services, working across the 海角视频 Europe and The Middle East.
He then became managing director of United Utilities Water in 2010 and from there joined the main board as chief operating officer.
