The Galleries in Bristol has appointed a new manager who says he is committed to turning the shopping centre into a hub for the community that offers an "experience which goes beyond retail".

David Wait has had a 20-year career managing shopping centres in a range of roles that started with him working as a security guard.

He has worked for nine different schemes in the last two decades, including a London designer outlet and a shopping centre in Kingston upon Thames.

“I grew up in Cheddar and I have fond memories of The Galleries,” said David.

“Now I’m in my new role, I’m want to work more closely with key stakeholders across the city as well as local charities and organisations to help put the centre at the heart of the community.

"I want to make it a destination that offers more than just shops, but also brings a variety of inspiring events and activities for all ages.

David says he is hoping to attract new businesses to The Galleries, which was sold off at a discounted price earlier in 2019.

The shopping centre was bought by fund management company LaSalle Investment Management for £32million - down on the £50million it was sold for eight years ago.
