A Derbyshire farm shop has started selling a sausage inspired by football legend Wayne Rooney which will raise funds for a children’s holiday centre.

Croots Farm Shop and Cafe, based in Wirksworth Road, Duffield, has started offering the Bangerooney, named after the former England and Manchester United hero, who at the start of this month joined Derby County.

For the next three months, the pork and caramelised onion with black pepper sausage, will be on sale at the farm shop, with 10% of the proceeds going to the firm’s adopted charity - the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre.

Based in Skegness, Lincolnshire, the centre provides 450 holiday places per season for eight to 14-year olds from across Derbyshire.

According to Steve Croot, who runs the farm shop at Farnah House Farm with wife Kay, it is not the first time that the business has stocked the Bangerooney.

He said: “The Bangerooney made its debut for Croots back in 2010 and returned in 2014 as we marked England’s football World Cup campaigns.

“It seems only right that it is returning with a new recipe to our fresh meat counter now that we have one of the biggest names in football playing for the Rams.
