Former Thomas Cook staff return to work as old branch finally reopens as Hays Travel

Hays Travel took over the branch in October but staff have only just gained access to the building

This former Thomas Cook branch has finally reopened as Hays Travel

Former Thomas Cook staff have returned to their old branch - after it finally reopened as Hays Travel.

A group of employees who had been working at the collapsed travel chain are back at the shop in Hanley's Fountain Square, in Stoke-on-Trent - four months after it was taken over by Hays Travel.

The staff had been working at the old Thomas Cook store in Longton while bosses at Hays Travel tried to negotiate access to the building.

But now the branch is officially open for business.

Branch manager Mark Barnett, told : "It’s been a huge roller-coaster since Thomas Cook collapsed. We didn’t know if we would ever get to work from the Hanley store again.

"We got the call just before Christmas that we were coming back to Fountain Square and it was like Christmas had come early.

"It’s been really good to get our old customers back in and welcome new ones. We are all the same team and have been kept together.
