A Somerset-based equestrian and riding wear business has completed the renovation of new larger premises.

Unicorn Saddlery said the expansion at its 1.5-acre site in Hatch Beauchamp, near Taunton, has given it a near three-fold increase in retail space.

The project has included:

  • the remodelling of a 7,000 sq ft retail shop,
  • the construction of a large storage area for feeds and bedding,
  • the development of an all-purpose riding arena and four stables,
  • parking facilities for 37 cars.

The business, which currently employs eight people, said that it was expecting to increase its headcount to support its recent expansion.

It added that the move had enabled it to increase its range of saddles and stable equipment, as well as introduce an onsite saddle fitting service for customers.

The company, founded in 1993, was able to carry out the work after securing a £200,000 loan from Lloyds Bank, which previously supported the business to acquire the site in 2017.

Philip Ireland, founder and director of Unicorn Saddlery, said the renovation of its site had allowed it to become a “real destination venue”.

Mr Ireland said: “We’ve already had some fantastic feedback on our new on-site saddle fitting service and have welcomed new customers from as far afield as Brighton and Pontypool.
