East Midlands Railway says strikes mean no services on May 31 and June 3, and limited services on June 1 and 2

Passengers are being warned to make alternative plans as the next round of strikes cripple the rail network. East Midlands Railway (EMR) said there will be no regional services on Wednesday, May 31, and Saturday, June 3, and significantly limited services on Friday, June 2.

The stoppages are part of ongoing industrial action by members of the RMT and ASLEF unions over pay and conditions. The ASLEF action on May 31 and June 3 specifically affects train drivers which means EMR will be unable to operate any trains. The strikes will also affect other train companies and their services across the country.

Travellers should also expect possible cancellations or changes on Thursday, June 1, due to action short of striking by members of ASLEF.

Then on Friday, 2 June, action by the RMT union will mean significantly reduced service with trains only running between 7.30am and 6.30pm, with the last departures starting between 3pm and 4.30pm.

On the same day Intercity trains will also start from Derby, rather than Sheffield due engineering works, with CrossCountry running a shuttle service between Sheffield and Derby.

A spokeswoman said: “Customers are being advised to travel by rail only if absolutely necessary and should be aware that strike action will affect other routes across the country – with very limited services running across the whole rail network.

“Customers should also ensure they check their full journey before traveling and are strongly advised to check the EMR website, information in stations and social media for the latest advice and information.”

East Midlands Railway managing director Will Rogers said: "Unfortunately, we will be unable to run any services next Wednesday and Saturday and only a limited number on Friday.
