East Midlands Railway steps up cleaning regime as country moves out of second national lockdown

Rail company now has 577 cleaning staff – many of them redeployed from other areas of the business

EMR has invested in a specialist fog machine which sends out an antiviral disinfectant mist

Midlands mainline operator East Midlands Railway says it is spending money making sure its stations and carriages are clean as the º£½ÇÊÓƵ moves out of its second national lockdown.

The railway company said it has enhanced cleaning and safety measures across all its depots, staff areas, trains, and stations – including more cleaning of touch points, more staff and increased monitoring of cleanliness.

Bosses said they want to reassure passengers returning to the railway as lockdown eases and as Christmas approaches that it is safe to travel.

The new measures include:

– Employing more cleaners than ever before

– Sourcing powerful disinfectant products

– Buying specialist cleaning equipment including a Motorscrubber, which generates micro droplets for enhanced cleaning of touch points

– Using a specialist fog machine which sends out an antiviral disinfectant mist to sanitise large areas such as the inside of carriages. It not only kills viruses on hard surfaces but also in the air
