Major banks have announced that more than two dozen branches will shut in the North West this year - with Lloyds and Halifax announcing closures in the last few weeks.

In March Halifax announced it would shut its Prestwich branch in Greater Manchester, while Lloyds announced the closure of its banks in Malpas, Cheshire, and Clitheroe, Ribble Valley.

They are among 101 closures announced nationwide in March alone, with NatWest shutting 47 branches across the country, Halifax closing 22 banks, and Lloyds 21. Bank of Scotland also said it was shutting 10 branches, and RBS one branch.

In the North West, it means 25 banks either have already closed or will close this year, with another scheduled to shut in 2025 and the end date of one more bank yet to be confirmed.

The closure of 10 of those banks will leave the surrounding communities with no branches of any banks remaining.

Greater Manchester and Cumbria have been hit particularly hard with seven closures in each area, but Merseyside is losing six banks, Lancashire five, and Cheshire two.

You can see which banks are closing or have closed in your area using our interactive map.
