More goods and services from Dorset could be used by the county council in the future, including in the County Hall canteen.
Local authority leader Nick Ireland said that changes in Government rules should make it easier for Dorset Council to 'buy local', a move they are keen on making.
The response was prompted by a question from Cranborne Chase councillor Piers Brown at the July full council meeting.

He suggested a new Government 'procurement framework' should simplify purchasing from local businesses, supporting the county's economy.
Councillor Ireland confirmed that Dorset Council plans to fully utilise these changes "to enhance local sourcing and strengthen the Dorset economy."
"Dorset Council's procurement strategy prioritises maximising the Dorset Pound and the new Act provides additional tools to do so more effectively whenever possible," he said.
The council leader also mentioned that the council believes it is now feasible to devise ways for local small and medium providers to benefit and intends to launch a campaign to raise awareness of these changes.
