A Derbyshire based leisure firm has reported rising sales of caravans and motorhomes during the coronavirus lockdown.

The Don Amott Group, headquartered at Hilton, said it has taken almost £1 million of deposits over the last three weeks for leisure vehicles.

The company, which operates a 25-acre sales ground in the village, which is just south of Derby, said it believes the increase in interest is down to the fact many people are unlikely to holiday abroad this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The sales boom follows on from a similar surge in interest, which came about due to Brexit.

Boss Don Amott said: “Ever since Brexit the appeal of re-discovering the great British holiday has been in people’s minds, and especially now with the coronavirus crisis and the spell of good weather.

"The freedom that owning a motorhome or touring caravan brings, and the option of buying your own holiday home, are the perfect solutions and seem like sensible options."

As well as its Hilton sales ground, the Don Amott Group also has five Lincolnshire holiday home parks and its caravan site in North Somercotes, in Derbyshire.

All of these sites are currently closed – but the firm has been offering customers virtual tours of the vehicles and holiday homes.
