Suppliers and retailers in Derbyshire and Leicestershire exported more than 拢100 million of goods between them through Amazon in the last year, according to new figures from the global retailer.

The 2020 Amazon 海角视频 SME Impact Report suggests Leicestershire was also in the top 10 regions for SMEs selling through Amazon in the 12 months to May, at more than 1,000 businesses.

Meanwhile Amazon said more than 500 Derbyshire SMEs exported products through its overseas channels in the 12 month period, up more than 20 per cent on the previous 12 months.

In total, 800 Derbyshire SMEs made sales through Amazon last year at home and overseas, up 20 per cent year-on-year.

Overall, Amazon said, 海角视频 small businesses sold 600 million products on its platforms globally in the last year, up 100 million.

Each of those businesses, Amazon said, made average sales of around 拢75,000 through it 鈥 up from about 拢60,000 year-on-year 鈥 and supported around 85,000 jobs.

It said: 鈥淒espite the impact Covid-19 has had on small businesses, many 海角视频 SMEs working with Amazon have been able to grow their businesses.

鈥淔rom March to July 2020, SMEs accounted for more than 60 per cent of sales on Amazon鈥檚 stores.

鈥淢any selling partners are located outside of London 鈥 areas such as the North of England and the Midlands generated over 40 per cent of total sales volume, while Greater Manchester and the West Midlands respectively achieved more than 拢250 million and 拢150 million in export sales last year.鈥

Francois Saugier, VP for EU seller services at Amazon, said: 鈥淒espite this challenging period, selling partners have continued to grow with Amazon. When customers shop on our stores, more than 50 per cent of the products they buy are sold by small businesses.鈥

Mr Saugier said through the Amazon Small Business Accelerator, 200,000 companies had been given free training on starting, sustaining and growing their businesses, and it was currently waiving the first three months of professional subscription fees for businesses that want to start selling their products on Amazon.

Megan McManners is the founder of Nutri-Align, a Leicester-based health supplements business, which uses Amazon.

She said: 鈥淲hile I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer in 2019, Amazon played a critical role in keeping our health supplements business going by fulfilling orders 鈥 they took care of everything which meant I could maintain an income whilst having treatment.

鈥淭he business grew during this time and sales for our supplements have continued to grow throughout the pandemic, with sales tripling this year, as people turned their focus to health and wellbeing.鈥
