Several South West businesses have featured in a new list of 100 fastest-growing firms in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ. Cornwall's Origin Coffee and clothing brand Finisterre, plus Devon's Redpost Equestrian all made it on the list.

The inaugural Growth 100 recognises and ranks º£½ÇÊÓƵ private businesses whose founder or founders are still actively involved. Companies are ranked by compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in sales over the last three financial years.

To be on the list, businesses must have sales between £3m and £200m, been trading for at least three years and have turned an operating profit in the latest financial year.

Porthleven-based Origin Coffee ranked 89 in the list and was the only coffee roastery to feature. Launched in 2004 by owner and founder, Tom Sobey, the B Corp accredited business has six coffee shops and hundreds of wholesale customers across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and Europe. In 2022, Origin was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.

Mr Sobey said: “From a sales perspective, the last 12 months at Origin have been incredible.

“No small feat, considering the challenges we’re all facing on a global scale. The knock-on effects of a global pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and numerous other issues affecting producer partners in their own countries have made the last year one of the toughest to navigate since starting Origin. I am incredibly proud of the way that every single person at Origin has adapted to the challenges we face, and I look forward to continuing to grow.”

Origin Coffee will be adding to its growing º£½ÇÊÓƵ presence, with a dedicated coffee shop space confirmed to open on Victoria Street, Bristol, this August. This will be first of the group's franchise to open outside of London and Cornwall, bringing its total portfolio to seven retail spaces.
