A Cornwall-based cyder company has expanded its portfolio with the purchase of Gylly Beach Café in Falmouth.
Cyderhouse Co, is a new subsidiary of Cornish Scrumpy Company, which trades as Healeys Cyder. It has bought the popular beach café off a guide price of £3.5m.
The family-run business near Newquay, which is best know for its 'Rattler' cider, bought the property on the Blue Flag beach after it was marketed as a rare opportunity in a "world-class location".
Gylly Beach Café was put up for sale earlier this year by current owners, the Daw family. The site comprises the café with indoor and outdoor covers and two flats available as freehold, with a separate bakery and takeaway on leasehold.
Michael Easton, at Vickery Holman, the commercial agent marketing the sale, said: "Our clients took on a beachside shack at the turn of the century and have created a quality restaurant and beach bar, taking full account of the world-class location. During their time, the Gylly Café has become one of Cornwall’s best-known dining locations and in more recent years a hub of activity to include in-house bakery, takeaway, beach retail and water sports.
"When the time came to hand over the reins, we were instructed to run a full and open marketing process which began in April this year. There was significant interest from the start, many keen to own a prime business and award-winning location. Through this process, Joe Healey and the team at Cyderhouse stood head and shoulders above the rest and understood the need to maintain the current standards for many years to come."

"In the interim, our priority is to get through a very busy summer, we’ve already re-opened the bar until 11pm and we are recruiting to support the existing Gylly team – particularly chefs with the aim of launching the full menu as soon as possible. Once things have settled, we’ll give the café a little TLC where it’s needed and from there we’ll take a breather and take it step by step. The plan is to revive and shine a light on this incredible venue, making it the immersive destination it deserves to be."
Brothers Joe and Sam Healey previously acquired the Falmouth pub 5 Degrees West in 2022. Owned by the Hancock family since 1977, the pub was sold on last summer.
