The Co-operative Bank has issued an apology after a technical glitch resulted in customers witnessing double deductions from their small business accounts.

A disgruntled account holder aired their grievances on X, formerly called Twitter, saying they were "almost £5k down thanks to this with no resolution in sight".

On Tuesday, the Co-op Bank extended its apologies and clarified that only a "small number" of 96,000 small business customers had been impacted.

In response, a spokesperson stated: "We are aware there are a small number of SME account holders who have duplicated payments showing in their balances and are in the process of correcting this issue."
