A well-known city centre pub that is a favourite among Manchester's students is set to undergo a massive £1m transformation and a rebrand. The Footage pub, located at the junction of Grosvenor Street and Oxford Road, closed abruptly in May.

For years, it had been a popular watering hole conveniently located near both the Manchester Metropolitan University campus and the University of Manchester. , little was said about the decision to close.

It has now been revealed that the pub, which used to be a cinema dating back to 1912 and is owned by Index Investments, will be managed by Blind Tiger Inns. Blind Tiger Inns also operate establishments such as The Chestergate in Stockport, The White Horse in Irlam, and the famous United fan pub, The Trafford.

Following a substantial £1m refurbishment, the pub is expected to reopen next month under the new name, The Grosvenor. This pays homage to its street location and its original roots when the venue was first established as the Grosvenor Picture Palace, which was for a period the largest cinema outside London.

The makeover will transform the pub into the 'ultimate adult escapism experience', featuring 'outrageous' interiors, large sports screens, a photobooth, and even an actual slide - where patrons can zoom past the original cinema balcony, .

It will offer patrons a selection of 30 beer taps and will offer pool tables, beer pong, darts, and more.

The establishment will also feature live sports throughout the week and repurpose its original stage for a variety of live entertainment options, including club and quiz nights, music, and DJ sessions. A new food menu designed to complement the drinks selection—which will feature craft beers, alcohol-free choices, cocktails, and premium spirits—will boast items such as loaded pizzas, stacked burgers, sharing platters, and buckets of wings.
