A former showjumper has expanded her equestrian clothing brand after moving to a new base in County Durham.

Entrepreneur Jordan McCabe – winner of the North East Young Business Person of the Year 2018 – started to develop her own company when she was just 17 but officially launched clothing business Aztec Diamond Equestrian in 2014, combining her love of horses with her passion for fashion design.

Naming the company after her late horse, Ms McCabe wanted to fill a gap in the market for accessible, affordable riding gear, having struggled to find clothing that was fashionable and practical, as well as facing the financial challenges of her horses’ upkeep and competing costs.

Since then, the 25-year-old has overseen the design and manufacture of seasonal ranges and now offers more than 100 products to customers around the world, and its popularity has led to features in top fashion and sector magazines.

On the back of growing success, Aztec Diamond Equestrian has now expanded its operations, moving from the 2,022 sq ft unit at Northern Trust’s Esh Winning Industrial Estate near Durham it has had for two years to an 11,191 sq ft unit on the Number One Industrial Estate in Consett.

The deal was overseen by agents Whittle Jones.

Ms McCabe, CEO at Aztec Diamond Equestrian, said: “The only thing I ever wanted to do was own an equestrian clothing brand, I still have folders full of drawings with outfits for me and my pony from when I was as young as 10. Although the pink and sparkle has been toned down, these designs eventually evolved into what you see and buy online today.
