A new craft gin inspired by a cocktail served at a trendy city restaurant is being sold in Selfridges.

North Bar & Kitchen, in Leicester, launched its North42 rhubarb and blood orange gin in the summer.

And the two female entrepreneurs behind the business – Sally Davis and her partner Joanna Betts – have now struck a deal to sell the spirit at Selfridges in Birmingham.

They were able to distil 1,000 bottles of the gin, which is made with 100 per cent natural ingredients, following a successful crowdfunding campaign.

They created the rhubarb and blood orange gin to complement the gins they sell in the bar restaurant.

The Selfridges deal, they said, was done after a chance remark at a business event.

Sally was speaking about their achievements at the Birmingham launch of Back to Business, a Treasury-led inquiry into the barriers female entrepreneurs face.
