A thriving community of independent businesses in Bristol is starting to reopen as government lockdown restrictions ease.

Stores including book shops, electronics retailers, tailors, auction houses, photography studios, indoor markets, and shops selling clothes, shoes and toys are all allowed to reopen from today (June 15).

Non-essential businesses at Cargo in Wapping Wharf are among those opening up after weeks of being closed.

Umberslade, the developer behind Wapping Wharf, says it has put new signs and floor markings in place to remind people about safety and social distancing.

Stuart Hatton, director at Umberslade, said: “Lots of the businesses at Wapping Wharf have carried on through lockdown, quickly adapting their operations and in some cases working together on things like online sales and deliveries.

“Many others are re-opening in the coming days and we’re hopeful people will support them – and do so responsibly, maintaining social distancing.

“We’ve put lots of new signage and guidance in place to support our businesses as they welcome people back safely.”
