Plans to build a new Porsche showroom and service centre in Nottinghamshire, which will create new jobs, has been granted planning permission.

At the start of the year, Pendragon, which is headquartered at Annesley, applied to Rushcliffe Borough Council to build the new dealership on a site off Melton Road, north of Wheatcroft Island, at Edwalton.

According to the proposals, the multi-million pound scheme is intended to replace an existing Porsche dealership at Nottingham’s Riverside Retail Park.

Recently, the borough council’s planning committee met to discuss the application and decided to give the scheme the go-ahead.

According to car retail giant Pendragon, for the time being the Riverside Retail Park dealership will continue to operate as normal.

However, once built, 40 members of staff could potentially transfer to the Edwalton site, where an extra 10 new roles could be created.

The Porsche dealership is expected to be part of a wider redevelopment of the site, which could also include a care home.

In a report prepared by the borough council’s planning department, recommending the new Porsche site be approved, it said: “The development represents investment into what has become a dormant site within a strategic development allocation and could serve as a catalyst for continued investment and growth within the area.
