Brittany Ferries, the cross-channel operator, has reported a surge in passenger numbers travelling between Plymouth and Europe - safeguarding jobs and returning the company to its pre-Covid success levels.

The firm experienced an overall 4% rise in passengers during the summer, with over 9,000 additional individuals travelling through Millbay on routes to France and Spain.

In total, more than 166,000 passengers used the Plymouth-Roscoff route, a 3% increase, and over 75,000 utilised the link to Santander, solidifying its status as the preferred route for Brits seeking the Spanish summer sun, up by 6%.

The company, which has its º£½ÇÊÓƵ headquarters in Plymouth, announced today that it is on course for its third consecutive year of growth when year-end figures are released next spring. It has already surpassed the two million passenger milestone.

Its newly released figures for its 2025 summer season, from June to September, show an overall 3% increase in passengers carried on 12 routes.

In total, 1,200,522 people travelled on the so-called Atlantic Arc - 33,341 more than the previous summer.

This signifies a recovery from the impact of the Covid pandemic, when numbers dropped significantly, and brings welcome news for employees.

Jean-Marc Roué, company president, said: "We have indeed returned to pre-Covid business volumes and have secured the jobs of our seafarers, despite the enormous difficulties caused by the health crisis of 2020," reports .
