The Wave, the º£½ÇÊÓƵ's only inland surfing destination near Bristol, has new owners.
The acquisition of the popular site, near Cribbs Causeway, comes as part of a financial restructuring by a group of investors who have appointed Julian Topam as chief executive.
Mr Topam, a veteran of the surf, music and sustainability sectors, is known for founding and running Boardmasters and Vision Nine. He also chairs Surfing England and the Blue Earth Summit, among other ventures.
He said: "I have known about The Wave since it was just an idea, and have surfed it many times since it opened in 2019.
"I have worked in the surf industry for 25+ years and in my view The Wave is an extremely important part of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ surf community and has the ability to grow and support a diverse and inclusive surfing community."
He expressed his commitment to ensuring that The Wave continues to thrive in the long term. Acknowledging the recent uncertainty, he thanked the staff, customers, and partners for their understanding, reports .
He added: "There will be a short period of transition as the company changes hands and we get up to speed, but we are doing everything we can to make this as smooth and as fast as possible, and to get The Wave open again."
The Wave has requested patience from its customers, adding: "Please bear with us as we work with the team to get the waves rolling again. We will be updating everyone as and when we can".
This appeal follows an unexpected shutdown of The Wave and its website on Thursday (June 26), leaving surfers with cancelled bookings and visitors to the site greeted by a holding page indicating the content was unavailable.
The majority stakeholders of The Wave have attributed the company's difficulties to the insolvency of a director from JAR Wave, another financial backer.
Efforts to secure the future of The Wave have been made, with a refinancing plan in place, and the company has issued an apology for the inconvenience caused by the closure.
"The Wave Group team apologises unreservedly for any upset caused and is doing its best to ensure the situation can be remedied," they acknowledged.
"The Wave Group, owners of the surf park in Bristol, has lined up a refinancing alongside its exciting London developments, which would see all creditors repaid in full within a week and is offering to continue to operate the park."
