Bristol Rovers football club has signed a partnership with Turmeric Co - a health drinks company founded by ex-West Bromwich Albion and Wales striker Thomas ‘Hal’ Robson-Kanu.

The partnership will see the club’s first team players and staff receive the natural nutrition shots on a daily basis, the company said.

The drinks contain raw turmeric root combined with other fresh ingredients - and, according to Mr Robson-Kanu, have anti-inflammatory properties that are said to aid the recovery process for athletes who are competing at a high level.

The business, which was founded by the footballer and his father in 2018, is already working with a range of other clubs and national governing bodies of sport, including British Gymnastics, Brentford, St. Helens and the English Institute of Sport.

Mr Robson-Kanu told BusinessLive he has been drinking turmeric shots "for years" to help with recovery from sports injuries - and that the recipe for the drinks was developed by his dad.

James Aitken, Bristol Rovers nutritionist, said: "The players and staff love The Turmeric Co's products and they have been extremely popular at the training ground.

"The players use the products on a daily basis, helping to relieve the strain on the muscles and joints that the demands on professional football put on the body.

"We look forward to working closely with The Turmeric Co as the season progresses and thank them for their support so far."
