Challenger energy brands including suppliers based in Bristol, Bath and Stroud have been named among the best for customer satisfaction in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

Bath-based Pure Planet ranked joint-third on the list by consumer service Which? while Stroud-based Ecotricity was joint-seventh and Bristol City Council-owned Bristol Energy was joint-ninth.

London-based Octopus energy was ranked the best overall, coming in at first place.

By contrast, the traditional Big Six suppliers - British Gas, Eon, EDF, Npower, SSE and Scottish Power - all finished in the bottom third of the table, with Scottish Power listed at 33.

Meanwhile, Bristol-headquartered Ovo, which has been fined £8.9million by regulator Ofgem for overcharging customers, was also ranked ninth.

Which? surveyed more than 8,000 people across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ about their energy supplier and asked them to rate companies on criteria including value for money, customer service and bill accuracy.

“We’re extremely pleased to have achieved the top 10 of the Which? annual survey for the second year running," said Marek Majewicz, managing director of Bristol Energy.

“To be turning five years old this year and place not only in the top 10, but also above the Big Six, is an amazing achievement."
