A brother and sister from Bristol are celebrating after their blanket company was named among the best family businesses in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

Bethan and Joe John, who run The British Blanket Company, are º£½ÇÊÓƵ finalists at the 2019 Natwest Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

The brother-and-sister team grew up in Somerset and moved to Bristol after leaving careers in e-commerce development and magazine journalism to set up their venture four years ago.

The British Blanket Company sells colourful wool throws and picnic rugs woven at traditional mills in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and Ireland.

The duo, who scooped the South West regional award, were acknowledged for their hard work and inspiring business journey.

Bethan said: "Winning Family Business of the Year is an amazing way to celebrate the passion and hard work my brother and I have put into building The British Blanket Company from scratch.

“When you're running a small business it can be difficult to stop and recognise how far you've come and it's wonderful to have The British Blanket Company in the spotlight."

Joe added: "Two-thirds of all British businesses are family-run. People are often surprised that siblings can successfully work together, but the dynamic has made our business strong because we have a lot of trust and shared ambitions for The British Blanket Company, yet different skills to bring day-to-day.
