One of Wales’ best known breweries is celebrating a double success on the world stage.

Wrexham Lager won gold award for best export lager at the Frankfurt International Trophy World Beer award.

It also saw its Bootlegger Pilsner lager take the gold award for best Pilsner lager.

It is named after Karl Phillips, aka ‘Bootlegger’ or ‘The Captain’, who has become a social media sensation with his matchday vlogs following Wrexham AFC home and away.

His twitter account has nearly 300,000 followers he entered into a partnership with Wrexham Lager for its Bootlegger 1974 beer.

Open to entries from drinks companies across the world, the Frankfurt International Trophy annually judges nearly 3,000 beers, wines and spirits.

Wrexham Lager’s success this year is even more remarkable as it is the first time they have entered.

Vaughan Roberts is director of Wrexham Lager and is delighted with the success.
