A South Gloucestershire brewery has hired its first brewing apprentices in its 24-year history.

Bath Ales in Warmley, which is owned by St Austell Brewery, has recruited two people to take part in its two-year apprenticeship scheme.

Ella Jones, 22, and Rob Alder, 23, were singled out for their creative flair, desire to learn and passion for beer, according to the brewery.

The pair, who have both experimented with home brewing in the past, will be learning about the craft of brewing and helping to produce Bath Ales' drinks including Gem and Sulis.

The apprentices will also develop their technical knowledge by undertaking academic-based training sessions at Nottingham University.

The new course, which launched in February 2019, is the first of its kind in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and the duo will complete a Level 4 qualification - equivalent to the first year of a bachelor’s degree.

The course was founded by a group of brewers, including Bath Ales’ head brewer, Georgina Young, and the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA).

Ella said: “It’s incredible. I feel so privileged to have been given this opportunity and be working alongside the Bath Ales team.
