Alcoholic tea brand Noveltea has earned a hat-trick of awards for its products as it continues its expansion around the world.

The Newcastle firm - which last year turned down an offer of investment on the BBC’s Dragons’ Den - won two awards at the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) and another from Great Taste.

The IWSC awards came for Noveltea’s Tale of Earl Grey and the Tale of Tangier brands, with judges describing the former as “crisp and refreshing, with natural ingredients and a lovely harmony between the sweet, sour and tannin textures.”

Noveltea has also won its third award from Great Taste, with judges saying it “certainly up the stakes as an accompaniment to an afternoon tea.”

The company’s founders said the award wins would “support our international growth into new markets” and added that “we anticipate growing our stockist opportunities up and down the country.”

Noveltea co-founder Vincent Efferoth said “It’s fantastic news that Noveltea has been recognised for pioneering alcoholic teas and creating a genuinely different tasting experience.”

Fellow co-founder Lukas Passia added: “We are delighted to have gained recognition as brand that seeks to differentiate from the norm and to be able to offer consumers the great taste of alcoholic tea beyond the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.”

Noveltea was founded by Mr Efferoth and Mr Passia in 2017. The German natives had come to the º£½ÇÊÓƵ to study at Newcastle University, and started Noveltea after discovering the British love for afternoon tea.
