Administrators have closed historic North Wales hotel

Caer Rhun Hall which has opened as a hotel

An historic North Wales hotel has been closed by administrators.

Caer Rhun Hall in the Conwy Valley was bought by Northern Powerhouse Developments(NPD) - owned by Gavin Woodhouse - in 2015 for £1m.

NPD were undertaking a project to transform the site from an accountancy school and wedding venue to a hotel.

But the high court appointed Philip Francis Duffy and Sarah Helen Bell, of Duff & Phelps Ltd, as

It had been kept open and continued to trade but today administrators said a decision had been made to close the hotel.

A spokeswoman for Duff and Phelps said: "The joint administrators for Caer Rhun Hall, part of the Northern Powerhouse Developments Group have today taken the difficult decision to cease trading at the Conwy Valley hotel, effective immediately.      

"Unfortunately, due to the financial position of the hotel and a number of health and safety issues on site which cannot be remediated without further funding, this option is no longer viable and for the safety of staff and guests, the hotel has been closed.

"All staff have been informed this morning and will be paid in full.
