200-year-old Warwickshire cottage combines the old with the new

Roundhill Cottage sits in an enviable position, tucked into the undulating hillside in the hamlet of Little Alne.

With extensive views of the Warwickshire countryside, Roundhill Cottage sits in an enviable position, tucked into the undulating hillside in the hamlet of Little Alne.

The original cottage, located between Wootton Wawen and Great Alne, was built about 200 years ago and has since been extended considerably, combining the traditional features with a more modern look.

While the word “cottage” might conjure up images of small, dark and poky homes, nothing could be further from the truth at Roundhill: it’s light and airy, with lots of windows and patio doors, while the dramatic front entrance has double height windows above the double doors that allow light to flood into the house.

With five bedrooms and three reception rooms over 2,285 sq ft of living accommodation, it’s large enough for a family – especially those who are horse lovers, because there are two stables in the generous four acres of grounds.

The main entrance is via the double doors, which open on to a generously proportioned hallway with pine wood flooring. There is a guest cloakroom and staircase to the first floor galleried landing.

Off the hallway is the impressive, triple-aspect sitting room, which drinks in the garden views and opens on to a patio via glass double doors. The room has ceiling beams and a brick feature fireplace with LPG wood burning-style stove.

Opposite the sitting room is the traditional breakfast kitchen/dining area, complete with ceiling beams. The kitchen is fitted with traditional style solid wood wall, floor and display units, and has black granite work surfaces, plus a large range cooker, and Belfast sink. The cosy dining area has French doors that open on to the front patio.

For more formal dining occasions, there is a separate dining room with snug . This room has a second staircase that leads to the first floor.
