Work has started on a luxury spa at a health club on the Leicestershire/Derbyshire border.

The new facility at Breedon Priory Health Club will have treatment rooms, relaxation areas, pools, saunas, and steam rooms, along with a restaurant and a shop.

The “high-end spa” is being built in the existing footprint of a golf club building, located on the edge of the village of Wilson – between Melbourne and Breedon on the Hill.

Planning permission was approved in March 2018, and the work includes the demolition of the old club house and another building to make way for the new boutique spa facility. Work is currently underway and is set to be completed by this summer.

It will be followed by the replacement of another property with six holiday lodges, which will be constructed from wood and located on the fairway to the former 18th green.

Derby-based project managers and construction cost consultant Armsons and YMD Boon Architects are heading up a team behind the plans, which includes fellow Derby business structural engineers Jackson Purdue Lever, Birmingham mechanical and electrical engineers HBA and Ashby landscape architects Lush Garden Design who have created the design for the outdoors areas.

The health club was purchased in 2013 by Sigourney Gates and her family and has more than 1,000 members.

The Club has undergone a number of improvements over the past couple of years including better fitness facilities, a 14-metre swimming pool and outdoor exercise rig.
