Skegness Esplanade improvements taking shape

Getting holidaymakers back will be vital to the fortunes of businesses in the East Midlands seaside resort

Work underway on Skegness Esplanade improvements

Work revamping the esplanade at Skegness in time for visitors returning this spring is well underway.

Diggers and earthmovers are well ahead with improving pedestrian links to the seafront and improving parking.

After almost a year of lockdowns, getting holidaymakers back will be vital to the fortunes of businesses in the East Midlands seaside resort.

The Tower Esplanade pedestrianisation is being done with the help £750,000 in government support, and new images from the site show just how much the works have progressed since.

Once the site is pedestrianised, traffic into the Festival Car Park will be re-routed along Princes and South Parade.

The area will also be made to feel safer while the changes will reflect the historic importance of the Foreshore – something already recognised through its designation as a historic park.

It is hoped areas such as Hildreds Shopping Centre will see the benefits. Shops in the centre include Boots, Card Factory, EE, Game, JD Sport and Superdrug.

Skegness Town Councillor Dan Kirk recently said the pedestrianisation project would be a huge step up for the town.
