Old Sainsbury's site earmarked for hundreds of new homes in £100m town centre scheme

Amstone Ventures is behind the proposals for the land in Warren Street

Amstone Ventures is seeking approval to construct 563 new homes in Warren Street, Stockport

A former Sainsbury's site in Stockport town centre could be transformed into more than 560 apartments and town houses, according to newly-submitted plans.

Amstone Ventures is behind the proposals for the land in Warren Street which would feature a mix of one, two and three-bedroom flats if approved.

The development, called No.1 Knightsbridge, would reach up to 15 storeys and include 563 homes as well as a communal garden and surrounding greenspaces.

Work on the 3.28-acre site could start in late 2022 if the plans are backed by Stockport Borough Council.

Martin Halsey, operations director of Amstone, said: "Stockport is a town centre that is changing rapidly and we’re excited to be part of it with such a significant site, close to the historic town centre.

"We can see a vibrant and buzzing residential community forming as a number of schemes come together to contribute to Stockport’s ambitious residential plan.
