New national HQ completed at former RAF Hucknall site

Harrier Park takes its name from the Harrier jump jet, developed there using revolutionary Rolls-Royce engine technology

Ready for take-off: The new RM Resources headquarters at Harrier Park

GMI Construction Group has completed a 196,000 sq ft national headquarters for educational resource provider RM Resources.

The 70 acre Harrier Park in Hucknall, Notts, is part of a long-term joint venture between Rolls-Royce and urban regeneration specialist Muse Developments.

It will eventually will bring almost one million sq ft of employment space, alongside hundreds of new homes and community facilities on the former of RAF Hucknall site alongside the Rolls-Royce Aerospace supply chain plant off Watnall Road.

It takes its name from the Harrier jump jet, which was developed at the site and which involved the design of revolutionary engine technology by Rolls-Royce.

Originally a Royal Flying Corps base, Hucknall Aerodrome was later shared between the RAF and Rolls-Royce, which carried out development of the Merlin and Griffon engines which powered the legendary Spitfire fighter during the Second World War.

While engine development and test flights no longer take place at Hucknall, the site remains home to part of Rolls-Royce’s aerospace supply chain, a key part of its global aerospace and power technologies activities, which employs around 800 people.

RM Resources is part of RM plc, supplying technology and resources to the education sector across the globe – from pre-school to higher education – including examination boards, central governments and other professional institutions.

Lee Powell, divisional managing director at GMI Construction, said: “It has been great to work on this exciting project at Harrier Park, we’re proud to have played a part in such an innovative development.
