Godwin Developments gets go-ahead for 100 new homes in Nottingham, creating 300 temporary jobs

They will "support the regeneration of the local area, provide high-quality homes in Bulwell and improve local infrastructure"

Godwin Developments is building 102 homes in Bulwell, Nottingham

Godwin Developments has secured planning for 102 family homes in the Bulwell area of Nottingham.

The city council has granted planning for the scheme which will provide a mix of two and three-bedroom properties in two neighbouring plots covering 5.2 acres of land.

The schemes will create more than 300 temporary jobs during a two-year construction schedule and, the developers say, contribute more than £150,000 to the local community and infrastructure. Both sites have been vacant for some time.

There will be 57 homes in what will be called the Maple Fields development, on the site of the former Henry Mellish School in Kersall Drive, and 45 homes in the Crescent scheme, on the former Piccadilly Playing Field.

The Henry Mellish school, which first opened in 1929, closed in 2009 ahead of the opening of Bulwell Academy, which saw Henry Mellish merge with the River Leen school.

The new homes will be near bus routes and are a 10-minute walk from Bulwell Train Station. The developer said both sites have been amended after feedback from councillors and residents to incorporate new materials and a colour palette that “better reflect” the character of the local area.

A spokesman said: “Additional planting, better defined community gateways and improved shared road surfaces have also been included to provide for more sustainable and attractive schemes.”

Gurdeep Gill, associate director at Godwin Developments, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning permission for both sites.
