Rowleys has appointed former Grant Thornton director Tom Copson to its team.

The firm of chartered accountants, which is based at Meridian Business Park just outside Leicester, said the appointment will strengthen its mid-market team.

Tom spent five years at Rowleys during his early years in the profession and said his fond memories were a big factor in him re-joining the firm after 14 years with Grant Thornton in Leicester city centre.

He said: "Rowleys has always enjoyed a fantastic reputation for high quality work and good client service so, when I decided my long term future lay with a more independent firm, they were the firm I wanted to talk to.

"As soon the partners explained their vision for the firm and how they operate now I could see how innovative and agile they were.

"I felt that I could add value to the firm with my experience and give a more improved offering to those private mid-market businesses I enjoy working with in the East Midlands."

Robert Radford, Rowleys’ managing director, said: "While it’s always fantastic to welcome someone to the team who so obviously shares our vision, Tom’s appointment is also an extremely timely one.

"Increased regulatory scrutiny and the push for more competition in the Big 4 audit market is pushing many of the national firms into that market and away from mid-sized clients.
