First phase of Nottingham's £650m Island Quarter development revealed

Huge development being seen as a vital part of the regeneration of Nottingham’s Southside area

How the Canal Turn in Nottingham will look

The first phase of one the largest regeneration schemes in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, has been unveiled.

Nottingham’s £650 million Island Quarter development will see a 40-acre site near the Motorpoint arena transformed into new homes, grade A office space, creative spaces, a lifestyle hotel with PRS and co-working space, shops and student accommodation.

The development is being seen as a vital part of the regeneration of Nottingham’s Southside area and is being overseen by developer Conygar working closely with Nottingham City Council.

Phase 1A of the plans, called Canal Turn, has now been revealed.

Artists’ impressions for the long-derelict site include a three-storey pavilion on the waterfront with two restaurants, events space and a large rooftop terrace. Conygar also said there will be a bandstand and public space, opening up the canal basin area.

Conygar Nottingham director Richard Watson, who is overseeing the plans, said: “Canal Turn is phase 1A of this landmark development, creating an exciting new pavilion overlooking the canal on The Island Quarter.

“Conygar has been working closely with the architects and design teams to develop these plans, not only for the first phase but also for the bigger site as well.

“The site will create a worldwide destination for Nottingham which will provide year-round interest and community facilities which can be used from dawn until dusk.”
