Cardiff Airport to host outdoor pantomime at drive-in

The airport will look at hosting more events with planning for an outdoor cinema and theatre stage

Cardiff Airport is hosting an outdoor pantomime in December.

Car Park Panto, in partnership with the Birmingham Stage Company and Horrible Histories, will present two performances of Horrible Christmas at the Rhoose-based airport on the December 20.

While that event is already sold out the planning permission for the stage and screens to host the event the planning permission to the Vale of Glamorgan Council is for the temporary change of use to the existing Long Stay 1 Car Park for use as an Outdoor Drive in Cinema or Drive in Theatre for a maximum of 28 days per calendar year.

A spokesperson for Cardiff Airport said they are exploring other options, and it could mean more in the future if successful.

Drive-in cinemas and theatres have sprung up across the country as a response to the restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The move will go some way to helping the Government-owned airport during the reduction in passengers in 2020.

This week the airport did announce the resumption of the route to Belfast Airport.

The route, which had been run by Flybe, has been resurrected by Eastern Airways.
