Barratt Homes wins planning for 199 new houses in Leicestershire

Barratt Developments expects to complete between 17,000 and 17,250 homes this financial year, plus 750 through JVs

How Kings Meadow in Melton Mowbray could look

Leicestershire-based Barratt Homes has won planning permission for 199 new houses in the north of the county.

The Coalville-based builder will start work on the 18.5 acre Kings Meadow site, in Kirby Lane, Melton, in January.

It will provide a selection of two, three and four bedroom homes, including 15 per cent which will be affordable housing.

Barratt said some of the homes will have nesting bricks built into them for swifts and there will also be “hedgehog highways” across the site as well as bat and bird boxes incorporated in the new buildings.

Mark Cotes, managing director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said: “Being given the green light for this development edges us closer to delivering more much needed homes to this area of Leicestershire.

“We look forward to presenting our plans for the site to local homebuyers when homes become available for sale in 2022.

“This upcoming work is another boost to the region and will provide a new and enticing opportunity to those looking to take the next step on the property ladder.”

Parent group Barratt Developments – the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s biggest housebuilder – recently put out figures saying it built more than 17,200 homes in the last year – up almost a third year-on-year – with sales of £4.81 billion.
