The North East’s biggest law firm says it has made significant progress on its strategy after posting a rise in revenues and profits.

Newcastle-based Womble Bond Dickinson º£½ÇÊÓƵ LLP was formed when Bond Dickinson combined with US firm Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice eight years ago, to create a trans-Atlantic practice. The business moved around 400 employees from its former offices on Newcastle Quayside - now a Dakota Hotel - to new offices within The Spark at Newcastle Helix quarter three years ago, and has published accounts after a year which saw it move its accounting reference date.

The comparative figures included in accounts for the 2025 financial year cover 11 months, so are not entirely comparable, but the business highlighted growth, as well as much work to boost its environmental and sustainability credentials.

In a report within the accounts, directors said: “Alongside a strong financial performance, with revenue up nearly 4% on the previous year (based on a 12-month grossed up figure the period ending 31 March 2024) and both revenue and profit above target, FY25 saw us make significant progress against our strategy and core objectives.

“This progress was accompanied by a series of people and role changes. Alexander Dickinson formally became chair, while Paul Stewart was re-elected as managing partner.”

The accounts for the period ending March 2025 show turnover of £128.9m, up from the 2024 11-month figure of £114.6m. Operating profit was £28.44m, up from £26.67m.

The firm has its head office in Newcastle but the wider Womble Bond Dickinson group has bases across the US and º£½ÇÊÓƵ, with offices in London, Bristol, Edinburgh, Leeds, Newcastle, Plymouth, Southampton and Teesside. During the year, it highlighted efforts to reduce energy usage while also procuring 100% renewable energy from suppliers for its Bristol, London, Edinburgh, Leeds and Southampton offices.

It also refurbished its London office and trialled a closure of one of its wings at the Bristol office during Mondays and Fridays.
