鈥淏oth Ian and Richard have a fantastic reputation and they will fit in perfectly as we have a shared ideology and an established relationship through many years of working in Hull and surrounding areas,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a real coup for us and we are very excited to have them on board.鈥
Richard Fowler and Ian Phillip were operating from The Deep Business Centre, less than half a mile from Williamsons鈥 Lowgate offices. The acquiring team said they 鈥渞apidly gained a reputation for challenging authority and fighting for the underdog鈥.
Mr Phillip was one of the youngest solicitor advocates in the city, and has worked on many high-profile cases, with Mr Fowler mainly working 鈥渁t the coalface鈥 of criminal law.
He said: 鈥淲e are very proud of our reputation, so it was important that we became part of an equally well-respected and principled firm. It will also provide Ian and I with the opportunity to give back a little by helping a new generation of criminal lawyers through Williamsons鈥 excellent training schemes.鈥
Mr Fowler added that joining Williamsons would allow for expansion and the ability to provide clients with 鈥榞lobal鈥 representation through Williamsons鈥 wide range of law services.
Neil Waterhouse, Williamsons鈥 operations director, said that growth of criminal law departments was uncommon in the current era of cuts to legal aid. 鈥淲ith the acquisition of Amber, we now have combined expertise which is unrivalled locally,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e provide an essential service to people who are in urgent need of expert legal representation, and it is vital that we ensure its longevity through smart ways of working and providing career opportunities.鈥
Williamsons, with further offices in Driffield and Bridlington, saw a 24 per cent increase in revenues in its last financial year, to February 2022, growing from 拢5.5 million to 拢6.9 million. Completion of the deal sees it now employ 125 people.
