Here are some of the latest appointments and promotions from across the East Midlands:
PP-L Health Technology Solutions
Coronavirus specialist PP-L Health Technology Solutions has appointed ex-Porton Down consultant Dr Rhys Thomas as its new chief medical and scientific officer.

Dr Thomas, who is currently treating Covid-19 patients at 海角视频 hospitals, invented one of just two successful devices for the government’s emergency ventilator challenge, creating a new type of ventilator which will soon be completing its medical trials for use in the 海角视频 and abroad.
He trained at the government’s defence laboratory Dstl Porton Down – which carries out research into chemical weapons and deadly diseases – and served as a consultant anaesthetist in the British Army and the NHS.
PP-L Health Technology Solutions is a Lincolnshire-based startup which specialises in helping organisations to prevent the spread of coronavirus through the smart use of technology.
Dr Thomas said: “Since this pandemic began, there has been loads of scientific research into Covid-19 and its transmission, and we now know that the virus is primarily spread through airborne microdroplets which can spread very easily from person to person.
“Studies have shown that it can spread up to eight metres from an infected person and linger in the air for up to 16 hours.

“The problem is, government guidance for workplaces has barely changed since the spring and so we’re still treating it like a flu-like virus that is mainly spread through contaminated surfaces, which is way behind the science.
“Fortunately, there is simple, safe, affordable technology which can destroy the virus and almost all other pathogens in seconds, whether it’s in the air or on a surface. Germicidal UV-C disinfection systems could easily be used in classrooms, offices, factories, pubs, restaurants, trains and buses to make indoor environments safe enough for us to get on with our lives and rebuild our economy.
“It’s vital that the government and business leaders recognise this, because right now, our attempts to tackle the virus aren’t doing enough.”
PP-L Health Technology Solutions was founded in Lincolnshire this year by chartered engineer Paul Waldeck and designs and installs equipment to eliminate pathogens.
Flint Bishop
Midlands-based law firm Flint Bishop has appointed three new hires to its employment law division at its Derby headquarters.
Briony McDermott joins from Wake Smith Solicitors in Sheffield as an associate solicitor.

She brings more than 10 years of experience practising employment law for private and commercial clients, and has specific knowledge of the agricultural, construction and care sectors.
Philip Pearson joins as a solicitor having trained and qualified with Cartwright King in Nottingham.
He has experience in dealing with both contentious and non-contentious employment disputes, ranging from simple settlement agreements to complex disability discrimination claims involving principles and end-users.
Lyndsey Noga completes the new additions as a client relationship manager arriving from car and home insurer, Ageas.
Prior to joining Flint Bishop, she worked within the financial services industry for 24 years, where she gained experience in managing major blue-chip affinity brands and some of the largest insurance companies within the 海角视频 insurance market.

Midlands Asset Finance
Financial services broker Midlands Asset Finance (MAF) has grown its healthcare division with the appointment of a new director.
Based in Derbyshire, Mark Lawson will enhance MAF’s coverage for healthcare businesses across the country, specialising in the pharmacy and dental markets.
Prior to joining the business, he spent more than a decade at NatWest, five years of which were as a relationship manager, before moving to Santander as relationship director in the healthcare arena for 13 years.
Mr Lawson is the first person this year to join MAF’s healthcare division – headed up by head of healthcare Mike Gascoigne – since its launch in October last year.
He said: “It’s an exciting time to join the business as it continues to go from strength to strength and remains committed to investing in further growth.”
Couch Perry Wilkes
National mechanical and engineering consultancy Couch Perry Wilkes (CPW) has welcomed two new trainees to its East Midlands offices.
Zoe Fittock joins the team in Leicester and Angelina Stankovic begins her career at the Nottingham office.
Having both left college earlier this year, they will gain valuable experience through hands-on project involvement and work towards industry-recognised qualifications with the full support of experienced engineers at the firm.
Angelina said: “I am grateful that CPW has given me the opportunity to gain practical experience and learn from senior engineers as part of my role.”

GF Tomlinson
Midlands-contractor GF Tomlinson has appointed three new technical apprentices as part of its commitment to investing in the next generation of construction workers.
The latest recruits to the construction firm’s apprenticeship scheme include Jack Harvey, from Derby, Joe Langley, from Crich, and Joshua Worrall, from Nottingham.
Derbyshire-based GF Tomlinson has 24 professional apprentices currently across the group, all of participating in recognised training schemes.
Its apprenticeship schemes are open to 16 to 19-year olds, and applications start at Christmas time for the following September.
For this September’s intake, seven applicants attended a Covid-19 secure interview back in June.
Associate construction director Kevin Dodds said: “Our apprenticeships are all about unlocking potential for young people, helping them into the construction industry and nurturing and developing skills.
“Training is a core value at G F Tomlinson and we pride ourselves on the programme we offer.”
Jack Harvey, said: “I am excited and keen to learn, gain experience and build relationships with my colleagues at my new job.
“I was attracted to the company after completing my work experience last year, meeting all the friendly people on site.”
Change Specialists
Business transformation consultants Change Specialists have appointed Derby-based aerospace and defence specialist Gordon McKechnie as associate director.
Having spent almost 30 years working with Rolls Royce, Gordon will head up Change Specialists’ aerospace and defence business practice.
A chartered mechanical engineer, he has spent more than 15 years driving business performance improvement and delivering large-scale transformation programmes, eight years of which involved leading digital transformation and IT enabled change programmes.
Change Specialists chief executive John Dean said: “Bringing someone of Gordon’s calibre on board is a significant move for us and one that underlines our commitment to providing clients with the best possible advice and support.
“Like so many industries, aerospace and defence is having to adapt and transform at a pace never seen before and with Gordon’s significant experience we will be able to add even more value to our clients across this sector.”
The F Word
A Nottingham business finance expert has been shortlisted for national recognition by one of the 海角视频’s biggest small business support networks.
Serena Humphrey, the founder of The F Word and the creator of the ‘‘F Word Academy’’ has made the final of the Enterprise Nation Top 50 Advisers Awards.
Serena has been nominated for her work in supporting SMEs across the 海角视频 during the first lockdown, where she launched a not-for-profit Facebook support group which now boasts over 3000 members and her work in creating the ‘‘F Word Academy’’.
The ‘‘F Word Academy’’ is an online business finance academy, with more than 100 videos, financial blueprints, templates, interactive advice, accountability, webinars and peer support.
The Top 50 Adviser Awards are run by small business network Enterprise Nation.
Serena said: ‘This has come as a complete surprise to me as I didn’t know I was being nominated, let alone making the final shortlist.
“It is great to see business advisers being recognised for their contribution to the 海角视频 economy because right now, solid, strategic and practical advice and support is needed more than ever.”
Breedon Consulting
Leicestershire-based HR company Breedon Consulting has promoted Bev Brady to operations director.
Bev has more than 30 years’ experience in HR, and has been with the Ashby company for eight years.
Her career with Breedon Consulting started as an HR consultant back in 2013, and responsibilities included dealing with client caseloads and HR compliance. Together with managing director Nicki Robson she continued to grow the services within the company and became head of HR in 2015.
While still dealing directly with caseloads, she had an increased focus on the direction of the business as a whole, while continuing to manage the team’s development.
Bev said: “I’m delighted to be appointed as operations director and look forward to the opportunities that come with this new position.
“I will be responsible for the direction and coordination of the company, whilst ensuring that the business has the best working environment and processes.
“My initial focus has been to review Breedon’s internal processes to ensure our efficiency.
“I am really enjoying getting even more involved with the company’s growth strategy and plans are beginning to come to fruition, which is both exciting and inspiring.”
Filling another new position within the team, Megan Hughes has been promoted to client relationship manager.
