How do you manage a work/life balance?
With some difficulty, but it is important to be able to switch off from work, have some balance in life and spend time on things that energise you.
What’s your favourite film?
The Commitments is one I can happily re-watch and a great study in team dynamics, ego, passion, purpose and Irish northern soul. What’s not to like?
Who is your favourite author?
Graham Greene. If I’m wanting to stretch myself, I will dip into James Joyce.

What was the last album you bought?
I rarely buy CDs now, but Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour was so good I had to go out and buy it.
What type of films do you enjoy?
All sorts, but films that make you laugh or cry, that make you think about the world, that give a fresh insight into life and what it’s all about are what I enjoy.
What is your best celebrity story?
I was once a roadie for Del Amitri while I was a student at the University of Nottingham – I helped them move their equipment to the stage.
What type of theatre productions do you enjoy?

What are your favourite concert venues?
Has to be Rock City in Nottingham. I’ve seen many of my all-time favourite gigs there – though the first concert I took my wife to was The Wonder Stuff at De Montfort Hall in Leicester, so a shout out to that as well.
What’s the best gig that you’ve ever been to?
Too many to mention – but Paul McCartney, Billy Bragg, Mindy Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, and Taylor Swift would all feature.
Do you like art galleries?
I enjoy the occasional visit to the Nottingham Contemporary or Lakeside Arts but not as regularly as I should.
Where’s the best place to eat and why?
Perkins in Plumtree is always good locally – the food is great, the staff look after you and it’s a lovely setting.
What’s your favourite meal?
I am partial to a sweet and sour chicken…
What was your worst job?
Working in a sweet factory making extra strong mints – it was hard work and I smelt of mint for weeks after.
What’s your biggest extravagance?
My wife would say filling the house with CDs and books – especially as they are all available digitally now.
What smartphone do you have and why?
An Apple iPhone. Apple is a genius company and makes its devices so good that you can’t now imagine a life without them.
What item could you not live without?
A bike.
What sort of places do you like to go on holiday?
Italy and Croatia are our sort of family holidays, though the Lake District over a glorious Easter weekend is hard to beat.
