A former president of Birmingham has been shortlisted for two national awards.
Dean Parnell, a dispute resolution partner with Birmingham law firm Sydney Mitchell, has been named among the finalists for the Solicitor of the Year and Legal Personality of the Year categories at the Law Society's 2014 Excellence Awards.
He said: "Both myself and my firm have had a great year and I am delighted that the Law Society has recognised this although I certainly did not expect to have been shortlisted in two categories.

"I note that the standard of those shortlisted is very high and, whilst I think it is unlikely that I will win either category, it is certainly nice to have had recognition from the Law Society in relation to the work that I have been undertaking."
Winners will be announced at the Law Society Excellence Awards 2014 on October 9, 2014, at the Park Plaza Hotel, in London.
