A Hull law firm with a strong maritime specialism has found a new niche - superyachts.

Andrew Jackson’s shipping and transport team has acted for Turkish law firm AKT Law, on registering a run of luxury vessels under the º£½ÇÊÓƵ flag.

The Istanbul solicitors initially engaged the firm in relation to the preparation of security over a superyacht. Since then a further seven have been registered, ranging in length from 12m to 42m, transferring from the Marshall Islands, Cyprus, and The British Virgin Islands.

Dominic Ward, head of shipping and transport at Andrew Jackson Solicitors, based by the city's marina, said: “We are delighted to have assisted AKT Law and to act as their trusted º£½ÇÊÓƵ partner on the registration and security of their clients’ yachts onto the º£½ÇÊÓƵ flag.

“We are ideally placed to provide a timely service, particularly as my colleague Rebecca Forder has expertise in the registration process and an excellent working relationship with the º£½ÇÊÓƵ Register, which has developed over many years and numerous transactions involving vessels of all descriptions.â€

The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea requires vessels to rest with a flag state, ensuring it falls under regulatory control. It is normal procedure to fly under the flag of the owner’s country.

Rona Kaspi, partner at AKT Law, said: “The team at Andrew Jackson has a fantastic response time and provides us with an excellent service; we know that our clients are in good hands when they wish to transfer vessels to the English flag.â€
