Solid State finalises 拢34m Ministry of Justice tagging contract

Worcestershire manufacturing group seals three-year deal to supply hardware to government

Manufacturing group Solid State has sealed a contract worth £34 million to supply the Government with hardware for the tagging of criminals.

The contract win but full terms of the deal, including its value, have now been finalised and announced today.

-based Solid State is listed on AIM and designs, makes and supplies specialist industrial computers, electronic components, antennae, microwave systems and battery power solutions to the electronics market.

The contract will be carried out through its largest division, Steatite, which will supply monitoring hardware for GPS tagging of criminals to the Ministry of Justice.

It is worth approximately £34 million over the three-year, minimum contract period and Steatite is due to supply initial products by the end of 2014.

Chief executive Gary Marsh said: "This is a landmark contract for the group and our largest to date.

"It marks the culmination of three years' development work by Steatite and suitably illustrates the scale and complexity of the contracts that we are increasingly tendering for."

Redditch-based Solid State has been listed on AIM since 1996 and employs 140 staff across its bases in Worcestershire, Stevenage, Farnborough and Hereford following its acquisition of Q-Par last year.
